Manchester United’s Superstitious Goalkeeper Senne Lammens Says He Rarely Watches Football
Manchester United’s promising goalkeeper Senne Lammens has admitted he doesn’t enjoy watching football outside of work, revealing an unconventional way to relax during a well-earned break from training and matches.
The 23-year-old Belgian goalkeeper joined United from Royal Antwerp for a fee of about £18.2 million and has established himself as the club’s No. 1 and impressed in the Premier League with his physical command of his box.
Despite his meteoric rise and impressive results, Lammens says that football occupies so much of his day-to-day life that he likes to get away from it: The N.B.A. or reading would be preferable to spending more time during the evening watching football on television.
Lammens said he is known for his meticulous pre-match superstitions — such as banning anyone from talking about clean sheets before kick-off — and said it also includes other unusual habits like always putting his water bottle in the same place so he doesn’t get bad luck.
They have welcomed the serene, unflappable keeper into their hearts for he is not only calm but also a polite man and his eccentricity on and off the field earns him leading headlines as he guides Manchester United from turmoil to top league positions of England.
