Sean Strickland Next Fight: Title Shot After UFC Houston Win

Sean Strickland made it exceedingly clear after his statement win at UFC Houston — he wants another shot of UFC gold.

Strickland headlined the event and scored a dominant third-round TKO over Anthony Hernandez, snapping Hernandez’s eight-fight winning streak. The performance instantly thrust Strickland back into the upper echelon of title contenders in the UFC middleweight division.

After the win, Strickland made a public call for a shot at middleweight champ Khamzat Chimaev. But that route to the belt might not be quite so simple. With up-and-coming challengers such as Nassourdine Imavov and other near-top-10 middleweights lining up behind him, the UFC might need to see Strickland pick up one more prominent victory before being granted a title shot.

Still, the momentum is clearly with Strickland. He showed once more why his pressure, striking output and durability are a dangerously effective mixture among the names on 185 pounds.

With the UFC middleweight division back at a boil, the question now is: Does Sean Strickland get his title shot next — or does he have to take out one more contender first?
